Obituary for Annie Ruth Valdes

Annie Ruth (Smith) Valdes was born on October 5, 1935, in Dublin GA., to
the late Lillie Mae (Summerset) Smith and Curtis Smith. Her upbringing and
education were in Vidalia GA. where the Smith family planted their roots and
resided. Annie was known for her vibrant and humorous personality. She had
an infectious smile that would light up any room. Her wisdom, wit and
authentic nature was felt and appreciated by those in her circle of influence.
As a young lady Annie relocated to Miami FL. where she resided for many
years. She was a very hard worker and a dedicated and respected employee for
the Burdines Department Stores where she was in leadership as a manager.
She loved her family very deeply and went over and above to express that love
until the very end. Her most favorite hobby was going to Miami Jai -A-Alai
to run the boys (as she would say).
In 1977 Annie would marry the love of her life, Mr. Juan Eduardo Valdes from
Cuba. This was a happy and fulfilling union until death separated them in
1998 when “Papi” fell ill and passed away. All of the children and
grandchildren have many fond memories as a result of these two being united
in marriage.
Annie was the mother of seven children: Burnestine Tim, Alberta Craig,
Jimmy Craig, Ronald Craig, Donald Craig, Shirley Sakers and Helen
Donaldson.
After a long and full life, God saw fit to welcome his child back home on May

25, 2022. She would no longer feel any earthly pain or longing to see her mak-
er.

She leaves to mourn her daughters: Alberta Craig, Shirley Sakers (Edward
Sakers) and son Ronald Craig all of Miami FL. Sister: Annette Mitchell of
Vidalia GA. and Brother: David Smith (Beverly J. Smith) of Newberry FL.
Her siblings Curtis Jr., Nellie Mae and Jesse preceded her in death. There are
20 Grandchildren, numerous great grands, great great grands, and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
