Carolyn’s Life Reflections
“And God shall wipe every tear from their eyes, there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Rev. 21:4

Carolyn Collier Bens was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, to the late Reverend Arthur James Collier, Sr., and Mrs. Bessie Rozier Collier, on September 11, 1939.

Carolyn attended the public schools of West Palm Beach and Martin County. She was a graduate of Bethune Cookman (College) University in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was employed by the Martin County School System, as a teacher, for 38 years.

Carolyn was joined in holy matrimony to Herbert Crist. Their union was blessed with two children, Gailya and Derek. She was later united in holy matrimony to Willie C. Bens, this union was also blessed with two children, Kendra and Carla.

Over the years, Carolyn’s home was the place for many family gatherings. She was an excellent cook. Cooking was her passion. She enjoyed expressing her love for family and friends through her culinary skills. Carolyn cooked big meals on Sundays, holidays, and special occasions. Many traveled from near and far to feast.

Although, Carolyn was raised in the Baptist faith, she joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she attended faithfully until her health declined. She had a melodious alto voice, and she dearly loved singing in the Sanctuary Choir.

Carolyn was the matriarch of the Collier family, and the last of her generation. She was preceded in death by her parents,
and siblings, Evelyn Patrick, Rev. Arthur Collier, II, Anne Brown, Lillian Edden, Rozier Collier, Leon Collier, Bessie Harvey and Rev. Sam Collier.

On Wednesday, October, 9, 2019, Carolyn transitioned from labor to reward.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories: daughters, Gailya Delancy (Theodore), Kendra Bens, and Carla Bens; son, Derek Crist (Gloria); grandchildren, Taj Delancy, Theodore Delancy, Jr., Cortina Peters, Ashley Collier (Dwayne), Derek Crist, Jr., Harold Rogers, Brittani Bens Rogers, Brianna Rogers, Brooke Bens and Aiden Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Morgen Peters, Trevan Delancy, Trinity Brown Sears, Brooklyn Crist, Derek Crist, III and Janae Collier, sister/niece, Gloria McHardy (Alvin); adopted family, Jerry and Brenda Matheny; special friend, Thalia Hodge; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
