Obituary

Derrick Lara age 61, died peacefully on February 13th, 2020 at his daughter’s
home in Miramar, Florida after a courageous battle with cancer. Derrick
was born on November 6th, 1958 in Kingston, Jamaica to Ruth Quello and
Joseph Lara. He was the youngest of six children, he had two brothers, Douglas
and Jean and three sisters Yvonne, Carmen and Cherry. Derrick and his
siblings were extremely close but the closest to him were Yvonne, Douglas
and Carmen they all loved each other very much. Douglas still resides in
Kingston, Jamaica, but unfortunately the other siblings also passed years ago.It is safe
to say they are all reunited in heaven. Derrick lost both parents at a very tender
age he was raised by Mrs. Evan whom he would often refer to as “mama”.
At age 13 he was adopted by Mr. Herbert Dawkins whom he loved very much.
Derrick attended high school in Kingston, Jamaica but decided to follow his true
passion which was music.

Derrick is survived by two children; Omar and Makeda and three grandchildren,
Omari, Nathaniel and Mosiah. They were his entire life he loved each of them very
much and they loved him equally the same. Besides spending time with his family
the only other thing Derrick loved to do was create music. Music was his passion,
he would always say “ Music is all I know, it is what I love doing and I will keep making
music until my eyes are closed”. Derrick was one of the most kind and genuine person,
he loved his family and his friends. He was never too busy for anyone, always ready
to listen and share words of encouragement.

He touched so many lives through his music and also by being the amazing person
that he was. He was truly an angel here on earth and he will be truly missed by many.

ALWAYS AND FOREVER DERRICK LARA
