Obituary

Donovan Todd a precious Lamb of God.
Donovan Todd was born in Kingston, Jamaica to Mr. Clayton S. Todd and Alma May Todd on December 20th, 1962.
Donovan grew up in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, where he was one of ten children: Robert Todd, Louis Todd, Phyllis Pottinger, Annette Northover, Ethel Todd, Clayton Todd Jr., Hugh Todd, Donnette Todd-Harris, and Andrew Todd.
He attended Crescent All Age and then moved on to St. Catherine High School, where he graduated and entered into the work force. Within the work force, he held a managerial position at Courage Construction Company where he exhibited great managerial skills among his coworkers. Donovan was a true leader and a reliable person who you could always depend on. He genuinely cared for the employees. I remember him sharing a story of Mr. Brown an employee who fell on hard times and was in need of hours. Donovan did everything he could do to assure Mr. Brown received hours.
Still working within his managerial position, Donovan was relocated to work in Montego Bay, where he met and married Cheryl Rodney Clark. They had three lovely boys, Orlando Todd, Donovan Todd Jr. and Paul Todd. In 1984, Donovan migrated to the United States. He lived in New York for approximately nine years. In New York, he continued in the construction line of work as a construction site manager and elevator mechanic. Donovan was a great family man. While residing in New York, his family grew he fathered Christopher Todd, Bianca Lewis, and Nandie Todd. He married the love of his life Jacqueline Todd in New York City, and they have since been together for over thirty-three years.
In 1993, Donovan decided to move to Hollywood, Florida.
Donovan’s and Jacqueline’s family grew exponentially with the addition of Naromi Todd, Nakira Todd and Makaida Todd. Their three older brothers migrated from Jamaica to the states to live with their father.
This union became the pinnacle of Donovan’s Life. His Life was dedicated to his family. As per his famous quote “Family, a we seh family”.
Donovan showed such pronounced love and care for his family. He gave his children great guidance, taught them moral turpitude, and offered them love for their life’s journey. His quote to them throughout their young years’ Manners will carry you through the world’. My nieces and nephews will never greet you without the appropriate Good morning, Hello, etc.
Donovan was very entrepreneurial as he believed in generating wealth through various personal business ventures. Just to name a few he was the founder of Prestige Promotion and Management, DonQLYN TRANSPORT CO and his later part of life became an Independent Insurance Agent.
Sadly, in 2008 Donovan’s Kidney failed forever changing his life. He sold his trucking company shortly thereafter. When his kidney failed his youngest Daughter Makaida was in 3rd grade. He asked God to allow him to live to see her graduate high school and to see his kids through the worst. Donovan passed away with her entering her fourth year of College and he was able to live to see three of his beautiful grandchildren Zamiyah Arianna Todd, Jacob Michael II and Kaden Donovan Todd, come into the world. To the end, he thanked God for his mercies and granting his wish. God was good to him and gave him a Kidney which kept him going until his unfortunate diagnosis of Adult T Cell Lymphoma/Leukemia in September 2018. Upon receiving this diagnosis like all previous times. He put on the fighting gloves and he began to fight. He fought to the bitter end. He fought for his family. Donovan was a fighter. He told his wife he was going to fight, he wanted to live, he wanted to be there for her and the children. And he lived up to his every word; Donovan never left the fight, the fight left him.
He was a selfless person, even through his last days, he was concerned about other people. When I would call and say “Hi, Dan Ban (a nick name I used for him) how you doing?”
He would reply ‘’good mi sista, how yu a do.” Again, showing great concern for others and not paying too much attention to his own situation.
Donovan exhibited strength, his mother use to tell him while growing up “be strong mi son” and he utilized that to the very end of his life’s journey. Through his battle with cancer he would still joke, trying to put a smile on everyone’s face. On the fourth of July, he fought his condition got up out of the bed and jerked chicken for his family. He was determined to fight and enjoy every moment God gave him with his family. He loved cooking for his family. He would always make his famous world-renowned Jerk Chicken. During his last days, he always wore his best face. Even when he was in pain, he would hardly admit he was having great discomfort and when he did, you knew it was more than a normal man could bare. He was still striving to be that pillar of strength for his family; and he succeeded as his family saw nothing but Donovan’s immense strength through it all.
Donovan was a beautiful soul who touched the lives of many. He was a great friend, an advisor they could depend, giving him the nickname “Elder”. He was a leader in his own right, a jovial person, full of jokes which lighten any moment, (his jokes will surely be missed), a shoulder to cry on, a provocateur of thought, a counselor, a great friend, uncle, cousin, brother, father and husband.
His contribution to society will be remembered. One of the main reason’s he joined St. Catherine High School Alumni Association is he believed in giving back. He wanted to assist the children of Jamaica. He put effort into various fundraisers which helped the current students of St. Catherine High School.
Donovan stated upon his death, “he doesn’t want any long donkey crying” he wanted his friends and family to celebrate his life. He was grateful for the blessing of life God bestowed upon him. My brother’s legacy will always provide lasting guidance for many individuals as they journey through their life’s pathways.
