Miami Rescue Mission in honor and remembrance of Eugenie Nellie Freckleton
Ms. Eugenie Freckleton was born on January
9, 1923, in Jamaica, to Edward and Marion Matthias.
She was blessed to have Christian parents; therefore, her
early spiritual journey was nourished, and she accepted
Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized.
She was educated in the public schools of Jamaica.
Aunt Jennie or Mama Jennie, as she was lovingly and
affectionately called by family and friends, had a
profound impact on the lives of all the people she came
in contact with. Although she did not have any children
of her own, she was a bonus mom and grandma to other
family members and friends’ children. She was a jewel
to her family, church, and community. Additionally, she
was a devoted and active member of Pure Heart Church
International. In the 1950s, the road from Jamaica
would lead Ms. Eugenie to then Great Britain, where she
studied and worked as a nurse. She would later retire
from nursing and migrate to the United States, where
she lived out the remainder of her years. She trusted the
Lord with all her heart, and she stood on His word daily
to draw strength for her earthly journey.
Our Heavenly Father dispatched His Angel to the
bedside of His beloved daughter, Eugenie Freckleton, in
the wee hours of the morning of August 31, 2020. She
was preceded in death by her parents and eleven siblings.
Left to celebrate her legacy of love and family values
are her sister, Daphne Gilzene, her brother, Rupert
Matthias, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces,
grandnephews, and extended families and friends.
